Is there any reason why it wouldn't work in the Z420 with LSI's own Windows 7 Drivers? Any Reason why Raid 5 wouldn't work? On LSI's Product page it says it should ( ), but is there any reason (BIOS or other), why it wouldn't work on the Z420? I ask because on the Z420 product page:ĭrive Controllers Integrated 6-channel SATA controller: 2 ports 6 Gb/s + 4 ports 3 Gb/s, RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 capable Optional SAS controller: LSI 9212-4i 4-port SAS/SATA 6 Gb/s, RAID 0, 1, 10 capable
On the HP Drivers page for the Z420, I can see drivers for a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-8i but not for a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-4i (I don't need more than 4 ports). Here's the list of component I'd like to get: Note that this is not going to be a RAID I'll be booting from but merely a "Work Raid" (I boot from a SSD). It's my first time configuring a RAID, let alone a SAS one, so I just want to make sure that all my parts will play well with each other and the Z420.
I would then use 4* 4 TB Enterprise SAS Drives and configure it in Raid 5. I want to use a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-4i Card, and breaking out of the case to plug it into an external 4-Bay Box. I'm in the process of gettting an external SAS Raid for my video editing work (Avid Media Composer 8.3) on m HP Z420.
